Sea Robotics

Expandacraft customers often build unique watercraft with our hulls. In the case of Sea Robotics, they are using Expandacraft hulls to build an autonomous research vessel (branded with their own logo), which they will ship anywhere in the world. https://www.searobotics.com/products/autonomous-surface-vehicles/sr-utility-3-6

Expandacraft Outrigger Kit on a Hobie 14 Pro Angler (Hobie PA)

In this YouTube video, we show a client-installed a one sided outrigger kit on his Hobie Pro Angler (Hobie PA) kayak. Why put an outrigger and motor on a Hobie PA kayak with peddles you ask? Well, he wants to take his wife out too and doesn’t want to flip the Hobie PA kayak over and lose thousands of dollars of gear. Some people add an Expandacraft outrigger kit to…

Using Expandacraft as a dingy

Here’s a photo of a 12 foot Expandacraft stowed inside the hull of our Seawind 24 catamaran. It fits in this small space and we then assemble it on deck to use as a dingy to get into shore or super shallow (6 inch water) like a little spoil island we like to visit in Boca Ciega Bay here in Gulfport FL. We also have a video showing the Expandacraft…

Shipping an Expandacraft

Shipping is not built into the cost of Expandacraft. In the continental USA, we use either Freight Center (who books with various carriers) or Greyhound bus to ship. The shipping price depends entirely on the shipping destination, number, size, and weight of boxes. No two shipments are alike. We will need your complete address and a phone number in order to get you a shipping quote. Call 813-810-2554 and we…

Gheenoe with outriggers

This is a customer shared photo of his Gheenoe on the beach with outriggers by Expandacraft.  He shared it to show how nicely it beaches with the outriggers. He got in touch and shared a few pics with us here at Expandacraft after hearing about the tragedy with a Gheenoe at the Mizner bridge here in St. Petersburg.  Stay safe out there folks!

Dimensional weight and international shipping

Why do we say, "For international orders, you must arrange your own shipping"? Simply, we have had too many issues with both package forwarding services (like myus) and with direct carriers like Fedex and DHL. Overcharges have cost us more than the sale price (so we lost money to sell a boat kit). Walk through a shipping exercise with us.  All shippers use a formula called "dimensional weight." Go to this…

Tiny motors

Finally, we have found an appropriate sized motor for most small Expandacraft modular craft.  Kayak Buddys http://www.kayakbuddys.com/ offers a line of small, ultra lightweight motors for kayaks and watercraft like Expandacraft.  Check out this YouTube video for a little more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ffp3DQvLDQs&t=8s This 1.5 HP motor moves our outrigger canoe at 5 MPH with ease and comes in a half the cost of the 2.3 Honda outboard motor we tested before. I can't wait…

Pedal Drive

Pedal Drive for your Expandacraft. We have incorporated a pedal drive from H2ProPed onto our Expandacraft wide glide 16 and plan to use two of them on a triple 12 side by side. The design is very close to what Expandacraft has been developing but this one is ready for purchase now. Perhaps later, Expandacraft will come out with our own drive unit, but for now, this one works very…

Shipping cost just got lower

Good news for everyone in the USA and Canada. Greyhound has started shipping the big boxes we usually shipped with traditional trucking companies but for MUCH LESS. Most boxes have shipped with Greyhound have been less than 1/2 the cost of traditional trucking. It does usually take a bit longer and we can't ship the 8 foot deck planks with Greyhound but the boxes of hull parts are downright cheap. So, if you…
